Damien Hurst

There are a lot of artists in the world that I would love to share, but I think Damien Hurst is a great one to talk about on this blog.  The work I love the most is made up of colored dots placed in geometric patterns.  The perfect blend of math and art!

Sorry, but I'm unclear as to what this has to do with maths? Or, indeed, art...

Well, Matt, it is art (whether or not it is art you happen to personally appreciate). As far as connections with mathematics go, there's the obvious connections to geometry, but one could also look at pattern formation and pattern recognition (what patterns do we see in the designs and why/how does our brain recognize/create those).

Thank you for your post, Angela! I'm not sure where the confusion is for you, Matt, regarding the math and art connection to Damien Hurst. He is an incredible artist who obviously counts on geometry (math) to create his beautifully made pieces of dots (in the two images I posted). You should look at more of his work - he is a well established artist.
