paper folding architecture

I stumbled upon this website about using geometry to fold paper into architectural forms. Here is a quote from the page about how they were created:
The original form was generated by radiating the hexagonal grid of a geodesic sphere and trimming the resultant surfaces with an inner and outer cube. The resulting network of cells gives the impression of a sphere caught within a cube.

those pieces are really beautiful. it's interesting that math plays such a big role in the development of those pieces, such as geometry and measurements.

I always wonder in things like this if the artist was thinking mathematically or artistically...

I think that these sculptures were made with artistic purpose, but the only way they could have been created was with a real understanding of math and geometry. It is an artistic use of math!
