Geometry and Symmetry at its Best

The Symmetry of Man by Leonardo Da Vinci is distinctively geometry and symmetry. This type of symmetry is called relfectional symmetry. There are five points (looks like a pentagon) which is said to be "the five points of living things." Da Vinci illustrates the form with two positions of both arm and legs. This depicitingg symmetry and proportion of the human figure.

I think that this drawing by da Vinci is kind of interesting because although we are sort of symmetrical in that we have two eyes, two lungs, etc., we are not entirely symmetrical. One foot can be a little bigger than the other, one side of the mouth can slant a little differently, etc. strange.

I do not think it was showing perfection but that we are similar in the reflection.

I agree with Nicholas. Along with the symmetry Da Vinci is presenting, its also evident in using the fibonnaci sequence in relation to the human body. (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,...)
From the first section of your middle finger to the end of the finger and then the palm length to the length fore arm is 1,1,2,3,5,8.
The same length of your forearm is the equal length of your foot.

Da Vinci also invented The Divine Proportion. He always made connections with mathematics in his art.
Here's a link to describe it more clearly, http://goldennumber.net/life.htm
